Buy Mushroom Spores in the UK

We stock two main formats. Our spore syringes hold 10ml of spores suspended in sterile water, which makes it easy to place a few drops straight onto a slide. Our spore swabs come as a sterile 2 pack, are low in moisture and tend to store very well, so a lot of collectors prefer them for archiving. Both formats cover classic cubensis spores such as Golden Teacher, B+ and Ecuador, through to rarer and more sought after varieties like Ghost, Jack Frost and the leucistic lines.

Are Magic Mushroom Spores Legal in the UK?

Yes. Psilocybe cubensis spores contain no psilocybin or psilocin, so it is legal to buy, own and study magic mushroom spores in the UK. Cultivating psilocybin mushrooms is illegal, though, and we do not provide any growing advice for these species. Our spores are sold for microscopy only and we will not sell to anyone under 18. We mention this not to put anyone off, but because a good spore shop should be upfront about it.

Why Buy Spores From Magical Spores?

Having spent a long time peering down microscopes ourselves, we know how frustrating a cloudy, contaminated or weak syringe can be. Each batch is checked for density and clarity before it goes out, and every order ships discreetly in plain packaging, usually by the next working day. Pair your spores with a few bits from our spore printing & microscopy range and our sterilisation & hygiene supplies and you have everything needed for tidy, contamination free slide work.

Storing Your Spores

For the best shelf life keep syringes and swabs in the fridge at around 2 to 8°C, away from light, and use them within a few months. Stored this way, quality spores stay viable for study for a good long while, so it is worth picking up a few strains at once and comparing their spore shape, size and colour side by side.

Questions & answers

Mushroom Spores FAQs

The questions we are asked most about mushroom spores, answered.

Are magic mushroom spores legal to buy in the UK?

Yes. Magic mushroom spores, including Psilocybe cubensis spores, contain no psilocybin or psilocin, so they are legal to buy, own and study in the UK. It is illegal to germinate them or grow psilocybin mushrooms. We sell mushroom spores strictly for microscopy, taxonomy and research, and only to customers aged 18 and over.

Where can I buy mushroom spores in the UK?

You can buy mushroom spores online right here. We stock over 75 cubensis spore syringes and spore swabs, all prepared in the UK under laminar flow and dispatched discreetly, usually the next working day.

What is the difference between a spore syringe and a spore swab?

A spore syringe holds 10ml of spores suspended in sterile water, which makes it quick to place a drop on a slide. A spore swab is a dry, sterile cotton tip carrying spores taken from a fresh print. Swabs take up less space and are often preferred for long term archiving, while syringes are handier for regular slide work.

Which magic mushroom spore strains are best for beginners?

For a first microscopy slide, Golden Teacher, B+ and Ecuador spores are ideal. They are classic, well documented cubensis strains with dense, consistent spores that are easy to find and focus on under the microscope.

What are rare and albino mushroom spores?

Rare spores come from less common wild isolates or modern selections, such as South African Transkei or Leucistic Burma. Albino strains like Ghost, Jack Frost and Avery's Albino lack pigment, so they produce pale, often sparse spores, which makes them popular with serious collectors.

How are your spores prepared?

Spores are collected from clean prints and prepared under a HEPA laminar flow hood. Every batch is checked for density and clarity, then clearly labelled with the strain before it is packed.

How long do mushroom spores last?

Stored in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and away from light, spores remain viable for microscopic study for many months. Dry spore swabs generally keep a little longer than liquid spore syringes.

What microscope do I need to see mushroom spores?

Cubensis spores are roughly 10 to 14 micrometres long, so you need a microscope that magnifies at least 400x. At 1000x with oil immersion you can see the spore wall and germ pore in much finer detail.

Do magic mushroom spores contain psilocybin?

No. Spores contain no psilocybin or psilocin at all, which is why they are legal to own in the UK. They are sold purely for microscopic identification and research.

Is my spore order sent discreetly?

Yes. Every order ships in plain, unbranded packaging with nothing on the outside to show what is inside.
