The Single Biggest Upgrade for Clean Work
A laminar flow hood is the heart of any serious mycology setup. It pushes a constant, even curtain of HEPA filtered air across your work area, sweeping airborne spores and bacteria away from open agar plates, jars and bags. This 2×2 laminar flow hood brings cleanroom grade air to a home lab at a sensible size and price.
How It Works
Room air is first drawn through a coarse pre filter that catches dust and larger particles. A fan then pushes it through an H14 grade HEPA filter, which removes virtually all particles down to 0.3 microns. The clean air flows out across your bench at a steady rate, so contaminants from the room cannot drift back into your working area.
Features
- H14 grade HEPA filter
- 2×2 filter face, compact footprint
- Three adjustable airflow settings via a rear dial
- Easy change pre filter
- HEPA filters typically last several years
What Can You Do With It?
Pour and work with agar, make cultures and liquid cultures, perform grain to grain transfers, clone fruit bodies and isolate strains, all with a fraction of the contamination you would get in open air or a still air box.
How to Use
- Place the hood on a sturdy, clean bench.
- Switch on and let it run for 15 to 20 minutes before working.
- Wipe the work surface with alcohol spray.
- Work in the clean air stream, keeping your hands downstream of anything open.
Our Experience
We worked in a still air box for years. The week we started using a flow hood, our agar plates went from frequently contaminated to almost always clean. It changed how we work completely.
