Compact Bags for Grain Spawn

Smaller bags are easier to shake, colonise faster and take up less room in an incubator, which is why most growers prefer them for grain spawn. These small mushroom grow bags measure 13 x 12 x 50cm and are made from strong 0.08mm autoclavable polypropylene. Each has a 0.2 micron filter patch and a self healing injection port for clean, simple inoculation.

Best For

We use the small bags for millet and rye spawn, around 1 to 1.5kg per bag. They are easy to break up and mix by hand when it is time to shake at 30 percent colonisation.

How to Use

1. Fill with hydrated grain and add a little gypsum to stop clumping.
2. Fold the top over and sterilise in a pressure cooker.
3. Seal once cooled.
4. Clean the port with an alcohol wipe and inject your culture.

Our Experience

Smaller bags mean that if one does get contaminated, you lose less. We would always rather have five small bags than two big ones when making spawn.
