Our Beefsteak All in One Grow Bag pairs a 1.5kg all in one grow bag with a 10ml Beefsteak liquid culture syringe, so you have everything needed to grow beefsteak (Fistulina hepatica) at home in one simple bundle. Buying them together costs £3.99 less than buying the bag and culture separately.
What is included
- 1.5kg all in one grow bag filled with sterilised millet, milo grain and CVG substrate
- Self healing injection port and microporous filter patch
- 10ml Beefsteak liquid culture syringe
- Sterile 16G needle and 70% IPA swab
How to grow beefsteak
- Wipe the injection port with the IPA swab, fit the needle and inject 3 to 5ml of liquid culture.
- Incubate the bag somewhere dark and warm, ideally 20 to 25°C.
- When the grain is around 30% colonised, gently break it up and mix it through the substrate to speed things along.
- Once the bag is fully white with mycelium, move it into fruiting conditions at 15 to 22°C with high humidity, fresh air and indirect light, then cut a small opening for the mushrooms to grow from.
About Beefsteak
Beefsteak fungus is a rare and unusual species with blood red flesh that genuinely resembles raw meat when sliced. It is slow and challenging, so it is one for growers who enjoy a project. Patience is key: give it plenty of time to colonise fully before introducing fruiting conditions. We rate this bundle as advanced level.
Pair your bag with a fruiting tent to hold humidity, and keep gloves and alcohol wipes to hand for a clean inoculation. You can also browse our full range of mushroom liquid cultures and mushroom grow kits.
Store the liquid culture in the fridge at 2 to 8°C until you are ready to use it, and inoculate the grow bag within a few weeks of arrival.
